Pearl Care Guide
Genuine pearls are organic gems that require special care to maintain their luster for a lifetime.
1. The Golden Rule: Last On, First Off
Last On: Always put your pearls on after applying perfume, hairspray, makeup, and lotions. The chemicals in these products can eat away at the pearl’s nacre (the shiny surface).
First Off: Remove your pearls as soon as you get home, before starting your skincare or house-cleaning routines.
2. Keep Them Dry
No Water: Never wear your pearls in the shower, swimming pool, or ocean. Chlorine and salt water will damage both the pearl and the silk thread or jewelry adhesive.
No Sweat: If you are heading to the gym or it’s a very hot day, it’s best to leave your pearls at home. Sweat is acidic and can dull the luster over time.
3. Cleaning with Care
Gentle Wipe: After every wear, wipe your pearls with a soft, lint-free cloth (like a microfiber or chamois cloth). This removes body oils and traces of perfume.
No Chemicals: Never use ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, or harsh detergents. If they need a deeper clean, use a drop of mild, ivory soap in lukewarm water, then wipe dry immediately.
4. Safe Storage
Give Them Air: Pearls need a little moisture from the air to stay hydrated. Do not store them in airtight plastic bags or a safe-deposit box for long periods, as they can become brittle and crack.
Avoid Scratches: Pearls are soft. Store them in a separate soft fabric pouch or a lined jewelry box away from metal chains or harder gemstones like diamonds.
